Patsy (Sarah Paterson) Bosomworth
(nee McLaren)
November 4, 1919 – September 26, 2015
A life lived to the fullest. (or well lived)
Patsy passed away peacefully near the completion of her 96th year at Southlake Regional Health Centre.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Norm; mother and mother-in- law of Rob (predeceased by Luz), Peter and Patti, John and Janice, and Jamie and Susan; and missed by her recent partner in life, John B. Wilkes. She was blessed with grandchildren, Melanie, Elora, Melissa, Derek, Steven Vanessa, Adam, Andrew and Mairi; and great- grandchildren, Joshua, Jack, and Ben.
Patsy was born in Toronto and raised on the family farm, Auchleskine, near Thornhill where she found her love of the outdoors, animals and nature.
She attended the University of Toronto graduating in1938 with a degree in English literature. Patsy lost a brother and sister in WW II and served in the RCAF in support of radar operations on the west coast of Canada.
In 1950, she and Norm were married and by 1956 they had four boys and had started her dream by owning their own farm on the 11th concession of West Gwillumbury Township. Patsy quickly became a force in the community by joining the Tec-We-Gwill Women's Institute where she played key roles and served faithfully for 50 years. She was one of the main organizers and supporters of the Newtone Choir which entertained the residents of the area with two concerts a year for over 25 years in the Orangemans Hall in Newton Robinson.
Patsy and her family have also been blessed by a lifetime enjoying the beloved family cottage, Norway Point on Lake Rosseau in Muskoka. It was there that she instilled the many family traditions that continue to this day. All who have experienced it will remember her renditions of her favourite Scottish ballad, Heuch! Glenwhorple, Heilan' men.
Patsy was adventurous, enthusiastic and a worldly traveler with a deep love of the outdoors. Her energy and joy of life were infectious to all who knew her. As she would say when one asked her in later years how she was doing she would say, 'Not bad for an old gal'.
Patsy, you were respected and loved my many and will be greatly missed.
Visitation will be at the Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Rd., Bradford (1-800-209-4803) on Tuesday, September 29, 2015 from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 7:00-9:00 p.m.
The funeral will be held at the Bradford Trinity Anglican Church, 56 Church St., Bradford at 11 o'clock on Wednesday, September 30, 2015.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society which Patsy supported for many years by canvasing for funds up and down the concession lines of the township. |
