In the military form, John gives his birthdate as 9 Aug 1875, making him 41 at the time. However, his Aunt Mary attested in 1933 that he was born on 9 Aug 1874. Possibly she was mistaken after all that time, or possibly there was an age cutoff for the expeditionary force, leading John to lie about his age. On the other hand, John's brother was born Aug 8 1875, and there is no record of them being twins. |
